Biography
| Amber O. Woodward Photographer Hollister, CA NH, NC Born in the southern United States, Amber O. Woodward was interested in art from a very early age. By the ninth grade, she was positive she wanted to go into art, and proceeded to reach that goal, on her own, by sometimes working two or three side jobs to pay for tuition and art supplies while in college. She was awarded several art scholarships, but chose to attend East Carolina University, in North Carolina because of its prestigious art school. Upon entering, Amber took fine arts classes and art education classes, right up until graduation in May of 1996. Before even walking to get her diploma, Amber was offered a high school teaching position at a local high school. She gladly accepted this position and took a barren room and turned it into a thriving arts program in five years time. Her teaching style was unique and refreshing. “The kids really liked her and knew she was passionate about art.” Realizing that this passion needed nurturing, Amber went back to College and emphasized her training in technology and art, learning how to design web pages and learning as much as she could before she graduated in 2000 with her Masters Degree. With a strong education under her belt, she was ready for a new challenge and moved across the country to California, where she took position teaching high school photography in Saratoga, California. Amber spent countless afternoons in the darkroom, teaching herself techniques and familiarizing herself with all that film photography entails. It wasn’t long before her love of art turned more specific into her love of film photography. With such beauty around her, the pictures started to multiply and the interest grew naturally to digital photography, which was a natural transition for this computer savvy girl. In the winter of 2001, Amber and her husband bought a home in Hollister, California to raise their son, and ‘son on the way’. Amber and her family continue to live in Hollister, where Amber teaches middle school art part time. This allows her time to pursue her other love, which is exploring the natural landmarks and beauty that the California bay area has to offer. She travels around weekly from San Francisco, down to The Carmel Valley taking pictures all in between. Her specialization is landscape photography. “She loves to catch the natural warm light in her photo’s, emphasizing the organic flowing landscapes we see here in California.” Many of the places that Amber likes to photograph are places that people drive by everyday, but don’t notice until they see that familiar place in one of her photos. She plans to open up a photography business in the near future, and is considering adding to her current gallery affiliations to cover more of the Bay Area and Monterey. |
